Alice by Heart is a musical that reimagines Lewis Carroll's classic "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" in the context of World War II London. The story takes place in 1941, during the London Blitz.
The musical follows 15-year-old Alice Spencer, who finds herself in an underground tube station shelter with other civilians during the bombing of London. Her best friend Alfred is quarantined due to tuberculosis and is not expected to survive the night.
To cope with their dire situation and comfort Alfred, Alice turns to their favorite book, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". She begins to retell the story from memory, and as she does, the people in the shelter transform into characters from Wonderland.
